This came during the meeting of the Security Council to discuss the situation in the Middle East, which was held in New York.

During a UN envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura confirmed that the security process of eliminating the terrorist group Daesh in Syria is about to end.

“The Syrian government delegation has postponed its departure for UN-backed peace talks that are due to resume on Tuesday in Geneva”, added Mistura.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the United Nations Security Council said in a statement on Friday that they “condemn in the strongest terms the attack on Al-Rawdah Mosque of Bir al-Abed city in North Sinai that left scores of people dead and wounded.”

Guterres extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the Egyptian government, and wished a speedy recovery to those who have been injured, the UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Farhan Haq, said in the statement.

Guterres called for the perpetrators of Friday’s horrific attack to be brought to justice.
